How To Prepare Audio for Mixing

  • All vocal tracks should be as-recorded and not be clipped. Clipped recordings will not be accepted for mixing.

Remove/disable all compression, EQ, and effects on vocal tracks.

  • If the main vocal is on multiple tracks, move them onto one track and export it to one file. If your main vocals overlap from punching in, you may use two tracks and export it to two files, labelling them “MainVocal_Punch1” and “MainVocal_Punch2”.

Follow the same process for adlibs. If there are adlibs across multiple tracks, move them onto as few tracks as possible, only using more than one track if adlibs overlap.

Repeat for dubs and harmonies, only using more than one track for overlapping vocals.

Files will not be accepted and must be resent if they are not consolidated.

  • Important: Export vocals in mono, not stereo.

Each vocal track should be exported into its own file.

Do not export the lead vocal and the dubs to the same file, or the adlibs and the dubs to the same file, etc.

    Export the stereo instrumental separately.

  • Once the files are in the folder, make sure the files are labeled according to the audio they contain.

For example, if the file contains the audio for the main or lead vocal, name the file “lead vocal”, or if it contains audio for a vocal dub, name it “vocal dub”, etc…

Listen throughly to each audio file to ensure there is nothing missing and that everything has been exported correctly.

Do not send unlabeled, blank, or extra unnecessary files. The only additional file you should send is the bounce of the rough song if you want me to use it for reference.

  • If using windows, right-click the file or folder, select “Send to”, and then select “Compressed (zipped) folder”

If using mac, right click on the folder and select “compress”.

Name the Zipped Folder: “Date_Artist Name_Song Name“
